This annual event started in 1991 as Qingdao’s 100th birthday celebration. It initially lasted for two weeks. It started with a grand opening concert and ceremony, followed by beer tasting, evening entertainment, drinking competitions, carnivals, and finally ended.

Theme ceremony with Fei Fei using the dolphin as the original mascot and more than 40 breweries from all over the world (Japan, the United States, Canada, Singapore and Germany) showcase their beer, this annual event has become more and more popular as Asia’s largest beer Section.

In the following years, the Qingdao International Beer Festival moved to Huiquan Square in 1996 and eventually to the Beer City. In 2012, the celebration was again moved to Qingdao Beer Plaza, also known as Qingdao Century Plaza.

Since 2015, the Golden Sand Beach in Huangdao District has become the main venue of the satellite festival in Laoshan District, Licang Expo Park and Pingdu City.

Qingdao Beer Festival has matured into Asia's largest annual beer festival (Asian Beer Festival) over the years, with more than 200 beer brands from all over the world successfully participating.
